Accessibility statement
What Barre & Beyond commits to, where it currently stands, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Barre & Beyond — the private practice of Bean Shindell — wants every dancer to be able to use this site, however they browse it. This page sets out the standard we work to, what is already in place, what is not yet, and how to reach a person about it.
Our standard
This site is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the standard most widely referenced in accessibility law and policy. That covers text and interface contrast, keyboard operation, meaningful headings and landmarks, labelled form controls, alternative text for images, and respect for the reduced-motion and reduced-transparency settings on your device.
Current status
Barre & Beyond is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and we are actively remediating. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard, but some parts do not yet. We fix what we find rather than waiting for a redesign, and we re-check the whole site whenever a page or component changes.
What we have done
Every page opens with a skip link to its main content and a single main landmark that takes focus. Text and interface colours are chosen against measured contrast ratios rather than by eye. Forms use real labels, mark required fields programmatically, and tie each error message to the field it belongs to. The testimonial carousel can be paused, and it stops advancing on its own as soon as you interact with it. Animation, background video, and translucent surfaces all step back when your device asks for reduced motion, reduced transparency, or increased contrast.
Known limitations
Photographs and video are art-directed, and a small number of decorative overlays may still fall short of our contrast target at some viewport sizes. Some interactive elements rely on the browser's own focus ring rather than a designed one. We have not yet completed a full assistive-technology test pass with screen readers on every route. These are open items, not accepted limitations.
Assistive technology and browsers
The site is built on standard HTML semantics and is intended to work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge, together with the screen reader and magnification tools built into macOS, iOS, Windows, and Android. It does not require any browser plug-in or accessibility overlay.

Our commitment to you
We aim to acknowledge every accessibility report within five business days and to tell you what we intend to do about it, including a timeframe. Where a fix will take longer, we will offer another way to get the same information or complete the same task — including arranging lessons, pricing, and paperwork directly by email or phone.
